The journey from 2010 to 2020 was as innovative for our commercial applications as it was for our residential projects. Let’s take a look at ShadeFX’s journey over the last decade.

2010: Urban Oasis at Market Square

Urban Oasis at Market Square offers spacious condo living in the heart of Toronto, Canada. Its amenities boast of a rooftop swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub. There is also a rooftop garden with an outdoor living and dining area for the residents. Covering almost 600 sq. ft. of space is a large pergola with two 20’x14’ motorized retractable shades. The kissing canopies are in a Sunbrella Heather Beige fabric complimenting the earthy design.

2011: Harley-Davidson Museum

The Motor Bar & Restaurant at the Harley-Davidson Museum serves up the best in Milwaukee cuisine. There is a 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor patio complete with fire pits and lounge furniture for diners to take advantage of impressive city views. This area is covered with eight 10’x10’ ShadeFX retractable canopies: six in a Sunbrella Charcoal Grey fabric and two corner canopies in a Sunbrella Rust fabric.

2012: The Keg Steakhouse and Bar

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar in Richmond Hill was already constructed when ShadeFX was called to provide sun and rain protection for the large around-the-corner patio. The area to cover was 64ft across the front of the restaurant and another 25ft down the side: a total of 1054 sq. ft. Four individual motorized roofs were installed operating off one multichannel remote control.

2013: The Beverly Hills Hotel

ShadeFX is proud to be protecting Hollywood’s ‘A’ listers from harmful and age-accelerating UV rays at the Historic Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. A whopping 51 retractable shades were installed over the Cabana Café and the Upper Pool Deck at the world-famous hotel. The canopy drop was reduced to not inhibit the ceiling fans or heaters underneath.

2014: Mr. Lincoln’s Square

The City of Clinton, Illinois transformed its public square with these ‘cool’ multi-functional structures equipped with ShadeFX retractable shades. Four manually operated canopies were manufactured to cover the two curved structures. Each structure hosts two 16’x16 kissing canopies. All four drive beams, stabilizers, and parts were specially engineered to fit this unique arched pergola structure.

2015: Level Furnished Living

Level Furnished Living in Los Angeles is an establishment that offers luxurious, furnished apartments for residents who desire everything from vacation rentals to long-term stays. Their outdoor space includes ShadeFX’s aluminum structure that covers 80-feet along the pool deck. The structure is sectioned into five separate cabanas. Each cabana includes its own retractable canopy and curtains on either side to create separation and provide privacy.

2016: Noyane Rooftop at Conrad Hotel

The biggest compliment to Noyane’s contemporary dishes and delicious cocktails is its impressively spacious outdoor rooftop. The rooftop space is adorned with modern furnishing, fire pit, large bar area and impeccable finishing. Working alongside Puccini Group and CRD+G, ShadeFX integrated 6 retractable roofs over the massive bar, covering an area of 1200 sq. ft. Along with a resolute waterproof fabric, a full gutter system was installed to manage rainfall.

2017: Green Flash Brewing Co.

Green Flash Brewing Co. in Virginia Beach, Virginia added a curved structure with nine motorized canopies and a gutter system to protect their beer garden’s patrons from the elements. Working with The Timmons Group and The Miller Group, ShadeFX crafted an outdoor experience that reflects the Green Flash Co. brand, product, and experience.

2018: Pier 49

Located in the heart of Juneau’s harbor in Alaska, is Pier 49, a new restaurant with a waterfront patio. With the help of ShadeFX, Pier 49 designed a large wood-framed pergola with custom rain gutters. Once the plans were finalized, the integration of two large underside motorized canopies completed the space, providing watertight coverage to the previously open section of the waterfront patio. Electing to add the fire-retardant fabric line of Ferrari, Pier 49 was able to install large heaters on their structure providing much-required heat during those cool and drizzlingly days in the spring and fall.

2019: The Front Yard at Ellis Island

The Front Yard is Ellis Island Casino’s newest addition. The expansive two-tier venue offers unobstructed views of the Las Vegas Strip. ShadeFX manufactured and installed twelve 18’x14’ arched motorized canopies to fit the beer garden’s unique barrel-vaulted open ceiling frame. For increased rain management, gutters, painted ‘white aluminum’ to match the structure, were added. Eight extra wings were included in each canopy for an extra sleek look and added strength in the windy location.
