Tucked neatly behind the Rose and Son’s diner, a sweet smelling smoke billows across the Annex neighborhood. ‘Big Crow’, inspired by winter camping and cooking over an open fire, offers generous servings of quick-grilled meats and simple sides to a growing population of stark raving mad barbeque hungry Torontonians.

The rows of picnic tables and dimly lit string lights bode well with the slow cooked meats dished off the grill. Along with the open-air patio and wood finishing, this space creates a warm, ‘like mama’ makes it’ vibe that even the staunchest city slicker would embrace.

In most cases, the good times and fuzzy feelings would be at the mercy of Mother Nature, but with their foresight and invention, the founders of  ‘Big Crow’, along with ShadeFX came up with a solution that would make the ‘Crow’ bigger and better.

The pre-built wooden frame supported our four kissing canopies, two sets of two, each sharing a common track. With us, less is more, by having two canopies on one track we ensure that when opened, the Toronto sky was in clear view. The charcoal grey Weblon waterproof and fire resistant fabric complimented the natural wood finish. In total, the canopies were thirty feet long and twenty-two feet wide. Lastly, we installed rain gutters along the perimeter of the space and sheet metal flashing to assist in runoff collection, keeping the heads and toes of all the guests dry.
 

 
Elbow grease and hard work paid off. In a recent article from Toronto Life, ‘Rose and Sons Big Crow’ was named one of the best new winter patios in Toronto. With the help of ShadeFX, ‘Big Crow’ spread its wings,  turning a backyard summer cookout into a Canadian winter brew-ha-ha.
